Visit to Exeter Cathedral: 23rd February 2009

Exeter Cathedral contacts: Catherine Escott, Head of Visitor Services

Terry and Catherine discussed the ideal position for the installation. They looked at the crossing and thought that the projections might not work as well in Exeter Cathedral as they seem to do in other cathedrals. They also considered the West Face of the cathedral as a possible site and although Terry liked the idea of projecting onto the front of the cathedral, he saw that there were no clear positions for the projectors that were both safe and secure.

The mock-up below is based on the images being projected onto the west side of the North Tower - over the North Transcept of the cathedral, with the projector(s) located in the small tower housing the entrance to the Minstrels' Gallery. The rectilinear shape of the sides of this Norman tower seems to offer a good space for the projections...

The additional images show just a few examples of the beauty of Exeter Cathedral.
